Routines that Made Me Healthy & Skinny

It’s so much simpler than you think! Rigidly adhering to routines is one of my biggest secrets. No matter what plan you choose to follow, you must be organized in advance in order to be successful because this ensures that it is easy to make good decisions.

I did not follow a formal diet plan because I was frustrated by the diet industry, so educated myself by reading books, did a lot of online research, then took the best of what I learned about clean eating and applied it to my daily life. There is so much conflicting information that it took a lot of trial and error find what worked for me long term. I needed something sustainable for life, not just to get to a number on the scale, then try to figure out how not to gain it back.

You must get adequate protein! Protein not only helps with recovery after workouts, but it also is vital to building muscle. It is not necessary to buy overpriced protein powders or glorified candy bars in order to get adequate protein in your diet. (If I do use them, then I buy Quest because they taste good.) I make certain that I always have plenty of lean proteins available in my fridge.

This shelf holds proteins like turkey, pre-made tuna salad, hard boiled eggs, and chicken that is thawing for tomorrow night’s dinner.

Keep tons of precut green veggies on hand! If I have a need to munch, there is no better solution than grabbing a bag of cucumbers and celery. The containers have one tablespoon of light cream cheese. As long as it is portion controlled, using this as dip makes the snack more satisfying.

Keep the kitchen clean! A sink filled with dirty dishes makes it more likely that I will pick up fast food or not do my food prep in advance.

Take care of yourself! At the end of the day, make sure that you care for your skin. After washing my face, I use a little bit of eye cream and lotion.

This is less about appearance than it is about finding the best, most badass version of you. The best version of you looks better because you take better care of yourself by actively taking steps to nurture yourself in every way possible.

  1. Is it true that protein helps you feel fuller for longer? I’ve always heard that, but never knew if it was true. Are there just certain foods that help you stay full or others that make you feel hungrier?

    1. I can only speak for myself, but I can tell a huge difference in how long I stay full when I eat protein. Simple carbs, like white bread, hit your system and turn into sugar. They don’t have lasting energy or keep you full long.

  2. I can so relate to your not wanting to follow a formal diet plan because of your frustration with the diet industry. It feels slimy and untrustworthy. And I so want to activate a long term lifestyle for myself. Your story gives me hope. Your think ahead approach is really encouraging and inspiring. And I love that you have exploded into your powerful voice, owning your God given right to think for yourself and showing honor to anyone who wants to listen and see your example of what thinking for yourself looks like.

  4. Besides the good advice about routines, this is what struck a cord with me ” I needed something sustainable for life, not just to get to a number on the scale,” this is so important to make a real change.
